DiSaronno Plaza wins Building of the Year Award

DiSaronno Plaza, an 89,000-square-foot Somerset office building developed and owned by Illva Saronno Corp. of Somerset, has been named the Middle Atlantic Regional Building of the Year.

Winning the MAC Region honor now qualifies the building for consideration for international recognition, said David Kelso, executive vice-president of Illva Saronno Corp. Previously, the four-story structure captured BOMA-New Jersey’s top award for buildings in its class.

Now 100 percent leased to major firms, the building overcame a troubled history prior to its acquisition by Illva Saronno Corp. It had been unfinished and vacant for a decade.

Illva Saronno completed an extensive upgrade from top to bottom and brought in its own leasing and management teams to accomplish an incredible turnaround. 80 Cottontail Lane, just off Interstate 287, also is the owner’s headquarters and flagship in a portfolio of 400,000 square feet of office and industrial buildings.

"The Regional MAC Award makes the statement that our companies really know how to run a contemporary office building," said Richard Ciallella, RPA, vice-president of International Management Group, who directs the property management programs for the Saronno Group Affiliate.

He noted that DiSaronno Plaza had successfully competed against buildings in major markets, including New York City, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., Boston, Baltimore and Philadelphia, among others.

Presentation of the newest award will take place at the Annual Middle Atlantic Regional Conference, 6 p.m., April 28, at New York’s Copacabana.
